Feed Reset

FYI, I just caused a feed reset.  If you are seeing a lot of unread items from my blog in your aggregator, it’s my fault.  Sorry, won’t happen again!

My blog has a new theme!  I hope you like it!  The Phoenixtheme look was created by David Peralty.

WordPress 2.0

I did a one-click upgrade to WordPress 2.0.  So far, everything looks ok.  I have to fix the header and sidebar, but I might switch to another theme before doing that.  If you notice anything wrong, please leave me a comment.  THANKS!

I’ve been pestering the brick and mortar book stores around town, asking for Shel Israel’s and Robert Scoble’s book, Naked Conversations — I’m not a patient man and I don’t want to wait until the 26th for my pre-ordered Amazon copy to arrive. Today, I stopped at the Barnes and Noble in Redwood City, CA and found out they had several copies waiting to be displayed. Snagged one.

If you are also looking for a copy tonight or tomorrow, head over there.

I’m looking forward to really digging in. One really nice ‘feature’ of this book is the online appendix - a clickable list of sites that were mentioned in the book, organized by chapter. Does anyone have an xml reading list for it?
[FYI, I started reading it as a digital e-book(pdf drm) on my Palm TX. It was slow going because the official Adobe Reader for Palm takes a few seconds to go back a page and it won't do wide-screen mode - 2 issues that really hamper comfortable reading. There is a freeware PalmOS PDF reader-PalmPDF- which is vastly superior to the official app, but it can't open DRM files.]

This is just a heads up - All of the permalinks on this blog from December, 2005 are now broken.  I changed the permalink naming scheme to ease the process of redirecting(301, of course) everything from my old blog.  Sorry for any inconvenience.

Jeremy’s report is fascinating.  He and the others on the flight(crew included) must have been terrified.  At least as interesting, to me, as the near-disaster is the battle in the comments on his post between his defenders and those who think he’s either a liar or a wimp.  It’s incredible how rude some people can be.  Also, Jeremy is showing great restraint(as with all blog software these days, he has the ability to delete comments before anyone sees them - and yet he’s approved TONS of negative comments).
To those that say he is over-reacting or a wimp: Personally, a loud bang, followed by depressurization, followed by the masks, followed by an odor that resembles burning would scare the crap out of me, too.

And those that say he’s a liar?  Some of the first people to call him dishonest made those comments from an IP address attached to Alaska Air.  Nice.

I’m glad he and the others are safe and I’m glad he filed his report for us all to believe and/or sympathize with.  Meanwhile, I totally agree that the baggage handler is at fault and AK Air is not necessarily at fault.  I’ll continue to fly Alaska when I visit my family in Anchorage.

TODO for my blog

  • Add recent comments to the sidebar.
  • About me box with links to Homestead and friends.
  • Automated post, once a week, that summarizes my recent del.icio.us bookmarks and my Gregarius stickies.

Duplicate Post

Sorry for the duplicate Murderball review.  I’m experimenting with hReview and the first attempt at the proper hReview format was foiled by the RTF editor in WordPress.

I added this text to the header:

To subscribe to my blog in an aggregator, use this link. To subscribe to my bookmarks, use this link. The other blogs and feeds I watch are at this url.

I also added my XBox Live Gamercards and my 15 most recent del.icio.us bookmarks to my sidebar.

On a new host, I created a DreamHost account and installed WordPress 2.0rc1.

TODO:

  • Set up 304 redirects from blog.ronin64.com entries to blog.tokash.org
  • Move all linked files over.
  • Move other misc apps over.
  • Move the domain ronin64.com over.
  • Start playing with the WP2.0-ready plugins.

Hello world!

Welcome to WordPress. This is your first post. Edit or delete it, then start blogging!

Random Ideas

Guest Editor Tokens - Blogging tools should allow for the creation of special tokens that bloggers can give to friends, family and peers. Each token would allow others one opportunity to post as a guest editor on the user’s blog.

App for Embedding URLs in Podcasts - I’ve mentioned this one before. Podcasters need an app that embeds URLs in Podcasts as a series of tones. Players on the PC and Mac could decode these tones and browse to the URL.

Well, there are a few things that still don’t work. I have to reinstall the tags plugin so I can put items in multiple categories. Also, I’m not sure if trackbacks are being autodiscovered - they used to be, but I don’t remember if that was a special setting or a plugin or if it just always worked.

Upgrade

I upgraded to MovableType 3.2. Painless, mostly.
