New GreaseMonkey User Script
July 7, 2005 · Leave a Comment
Gordon McNaughton, Craig Olrich and I created a new user script called GoogleSearchRefiner and added it to the repository.
“Add or Exclude selected text in future searches on a google search page using ALT-PLUS and ALT-MINUS.”
Update: Changed from CTRL to ALT because Linux Firefox thinks the user is trying to change the font size. Thanks for the tip, David Wiesen!

Is anyone embedding urls in podcasts?
July 6, 2005 · Leave a Comment
What I mean is: imagine that I’m listening to a podcast on my PC (ok, already a subset of listeners, but hear me out). Every now and then, a series of beeps happens and information about the song that is playing in the podcast or information about the movie being discussed in the podcast opens in a new tab in Firefox and the browser’s focus shifts to that tab.
What we need:
1) Podcasters will, ahead of time, put each of their urls into tinyurl.com.
1) Podcasters will then, during their whow, run an app that converts characters into a series of beeps.
2) Podcast listeners will install a firefox plugin that listens to the audio channels on the PC or Mac and decodes those beeps back into characters. These characters are then be appended to http://tinyurl.com/ and the result is opened in a new Firefox tab.
